Fanad Lighthouse

Fanad Lighthouse

Fanad Lighthouse is an iconic working lighthouse at the mouth of Lough Swilly. It has been votedone of the most beautiful lighthouses in the world and it’s easy to see why.

Visit the incredible Fanad Lighthouse, watching over the mouth of Lough Swilly since 1817. In 1811, the HMS Saldanha sank and 254 people died, the only survivor was the captain's parrot. After this tragedy, a lighthouse was built at Fannet Point as it was then known, and on St. Patrick’s Day 1817, the light was lit for the first time.

Fanad Lighthouse has been open as a tourist attraction since 2016. They offer fully guided tours where you can hear all about the lighthouse and climb the tower in the company of a local guide.
